With all of the bad news about, there are certainly reasons for Americans to be concerned. The COVID-19 pandemic and the economic downturn it is creating are without a doubt the two biggest challenges, but they are not the only reasons to be on edge. Although amazingly low oil prices are a welcome relief for consumers, they have served to put our US oil industry into a turmoil that will almost certainly lead to the loss of some companies and the consolidation of others in that business. The building report from January 2020 was atronomical in the amount of project permits and total money putting forth building in Sevierville. While February only has 20 projects that equal a lesser total amount of money, all permits are important to those involved in the smoky mountain real estate market! Sevierville has been playing catch up to the surrounding areas of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Knoxville for many years. However, the tide is starting to turn for Sevierville with the amount of building that has been happening around town recently. For example, in the month of January alone there were a total of 53 permits given for various projects in Sevierville. The projects vary from demolition to residential construction to shopping center spaces. The total amount of money for all of these projects is $13,647,675.00. It is safe to say that the contracting opportunities in Sevierville are growing based on the report from January. This can give you an idea about the increasing amount of building activity that is occuring just in Sevierville. This is incredibly important for Sevier County because the vast majority of our 12-14 million annual vacationing guests drive rather than fly to visit the unique tourist destination we have nestled in our mountains. Less expensive gas increases the chance that more visitors will arrive this year! Furthermore, decreased gas prices provide people with the opportunity to keep more of their money kept safely in their pockets! This could also be seen as a raise in wages!
