Even More About Schools At a workshop held yesterday, the Sevier County School System got an outline of a very ambitious capital spending plan to build several news schools as well as renovate and improve most of the existing schools. In fact, there is work scheduled at every Sevier County School System property in the county over the next several years. The total capital requirement for the plan is approximately $144 million and it represents a road map of where the school system plans to be in the next 6 to 7 years. Several new schools are already under construction and more are planned during the term covered by the capital plan. Kellum Creek Elementary in Sevierville, Cattletsburg Elementary, and Pittman Center Elemetary are new schools already under construction. Great Schools Update One of the challenges of maintaining a quality website and a healthy real estate business is to do both at the same time. Because of this, our website sometimes becomes very dated. The latest area of our website to come to my attention is the section about our local schools which is woefully out of date. With several new schools added in the last couple of years alone and more under construction it's time for an update. Gatlinburg Pittman, known for many years for its academic excellence, has again been recognized by a national review. This time, GP has been named in the top 8% of public schools nationally by the US New and World Report magazine organization. Their report evaluated nearly 19,000 schools from all of the United States on three basic criteria using data from the 2005-2006 school year. The three areas reviewed were: Student academic performance in reading and math compared to other state schools. Performance of the least advantaged students compare...
