On a recent very brief trip to Clingman's Dome , the highest point in Tennessee and the third highest mountain east of the Mississippi River, it was remarkable how many state's license plates we spotted. Although the majority of our visitors come from other points in Tennessee, as well as the nearby states of Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, & Mississippi, the diversity of states represented was a good indication of just how widespread the appeal of the Gatlinburg area is. In what can only be described as a rather puny performance, the preliminary number for our Smoky Mountain area's residential real estate transaction sales in November is sharply off of the stellar performance from a year ago. In fact, that is part of the problem - November 2011 was the best month during all of last year and that result of 165 closed sales has proven to be just too much to match this time around. Although several more sales will no doubt be reported during the next couple of weeks, the quick result of 123 sales in November 2012 leaves far too great a gap to be closed. This means that for only the second time in 2012, we will be in red when compared to last year's results. Although our Great Smoky Mountain Association of Realtors will likely report a dozen or more additional sales by the time all of the dust settles, the final tally will probably not exceed 150 residential transactions (at the most) during November 2012.
