Attention all bargain hunters! This charming Cosby home features everything that you want (and just as importantly none of what you don't want like HOA fees or pesky neighbors!) and is literally just steps away from the National Park. Located just 15 minutes from Gatlinburg, this cabin is perfect for someone who wants to get away from it all. Surrounded by beautiful ferns and rhododendron, owning this home is like owning a piece of the National Park with room to sleep 6 easily but it is much better suited as an intimate retreat for a smaller group to enjoy. If you want to enjoy the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, you can walk right in (or drive if prefer but it is only tenths of a mile away). The pictures below don't really do this home justice, you will need to see it for yourself.

THE two most important characteristics in Smoky Mountain chalets and cabin residential properties are without a doubt a mountain view and the degree of seclusion (privacy) available. Usually, these two features have an extremely hard time coexisting in just one home. While older cabins and chalets often had larger lots (sometimes with super views) more recently built homes generally have tended to be built on much smaller lots and the owner's privacy has been sacrificed to obtain a good mountain view. Although the Boston Marathon bombing got most of the headlines yesterday, there was something reassuring that I experienced here in Gatlinburg. The wonderful Spring wildflowers have begun to come forth, and the Lemon Trilliums this year (as usual) are phenomenally pretty. For a closer look at one of these beauties, scroll downward... If you want to enjoy these exceptional wildflowers, take a stroll along the Gatlinburg Trail. The Gatlinburg trail is a two mile long easy walk which runs along the river from the south end of Gatlinburg to the National Park Welcome Center. The scenery is great and the quiet time is an effective reminder of how nice it is to live a long way from the big cities and all that is wrong in the world today.

Rarely does it get this cold in Gatlinburg, and that's one of the many reasons why people enjoy living here so.  Our very mild climate, but with discernible seasons, is one of my favorites.  Only occasionally does it get very hot or cold here in the Smokies.  To be sure, there are every winter a few days (although more often in January or February) when temperatures will fall into the teens.  Still, our winters are for the most part mild and short lived except if you are talking about at the peak of Mt. LeConte where much more extreme conditions are frequently encountered.  Two feet of new snow and temperatures hovering around zero don't sound mild at all!  For a taste of what the current weather conditions are at the LeConte Lodge, check out this link . They even provide proof of the date of your visit! Yes, I made the hike last Saturday! It's been several years and more than a few pounds gained since I have hiked to the peak of Mt. LeConte (pronounced "Leycont"). This lodge is only accessible by foot but the truly spectacular views are well worth the effort!! The fall colors don't show up in this photo but they are remarkable in person!! The North Carolina side of the National Park Steep cliffs that we (not having rapelling gear) walked around... The operators of the lodge obtain their non-perishable supplies once a year via a giant helicopter freight drop that takes several trips and a few hours while the perishable supplies are brought up by llama once a week.  Although I don't have a picture of the llama trek yet I do have several that I took from 2006 of the annual helicopter drop operation: For an idea of the size of this beast, note the two men standing to the left... Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC), headquartered in nearby Bryson City, North Carolina is making dramatic progress on the construction of their new Great Outpost store in Gatlinburg which is slated to open in 2010. The 18,000 square foot store will be located on the long idle, but unmistakably prime real estate where for many years the original Open Hearth Restaurant was located. Bordering the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at the south end of Gatlinburg, this is another key to the continued re-development of downtown Gatlinburg. When the Gatlinburg Gateway development at the north end of Gatlinburg is considered, it is clear that Gatlinburg is definitely in a strong growth phase, despite the concerns of a lackluster national economy. According to their website, NOC's Great Outpost will feature a wide selection of top outdoor apparel, camping, climbing, cycling, paddling, hiking and travel brands.
